Student Life
Professors are approachable and available, staff members are there to assist students at every turn, and fellow students want each other to succeed.
Spirit of cooperation
ASL cultivates an environment of cooperation, support, and collaboration. It strives to challenge students to succeed, but also gives them the tools they need to do so. Students do not have to wait for weeks to schedule an appointment to see their professors. Instead, professors make themselves available and are even willing to meet students over a cup of coffee, lunch, or dinner.
Bonding through service
ASL students also bond through community service activities, such as:
- Buchanan County Community Christmas Collaborative – assisting families in need at Christmas time.
- Annual ASL 5K – raises money for endowment scholarships that were created to build a stronger community through the memory of Tom Blackwell, Tony Sutin, and Angela Dales.
- Trunk-or-Treat – A cooperative effort of the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce, Town of Grundy, Buchanan County Tourism and the Grundy Kiwanis Club, Trunk or Treat allows businesses, organizations, and individuals to distribute treats from the trunks of their vehicles, or from tables set up on the sidewalk around the area of the courthouse.
Campus Security
ASL campus security information can be found here: Annual Safety and Security Report (PDF).
Immunization Policy
The Appalachian School of Law does not require students to provide proof of immunizations; however, we encourage all students to take proactive measures concerning their health. Information regarding Immunization schedules and availability can be found at https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/immunization/.
