CORONAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY (CARES) ACT
The Appalachian School of Law has signed and returned to the Department of Education the CARES Act Certification and Agreement and given the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(2) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
ASL has received $93,792 from the Department designated for emergency grants to students (50% of the total received under Section 18004(a)(2) pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

The initial distributions above have been made on the basis of submission of a request form by students after being notified by email of the availability of funds. Students were asked to identify a need resulting from the disruption in campus operations due to COVID-19. Distributions were made in the amount identified by the student but was limited to a maximum of $500 per student to ensure that as many student needs are met as possible. Students have been notified by email several times of the availability of grant funds and the procedure for making a request. The second distributions have been made on the basis of current FASFAs on file and title IV funding eligibility among students at the time of disbursement. Distributions were divided equally among those students who were title IV funding eligible.
